Our History

The history of ThyssenKrupp is a succession of ideas and inventions.  They begin shortly after the company was founded in 1811, with the factory-scale manufacture of high-quality cast steel.  The invention of the seamless forged and rolled railway tyre in 1852/53 represented a milestone in the company's history.

Today, ThyssenKrupp is a leading supplier of industrial plant and systems, with activities in mechanical engineering, plant making, automotive supplies, steel production and processing, trading and logistics.

ThyssenKrupp in Australia

The first supplies of the ThyssenKrupp organisation to Australia date back to the 1860s, when rails, wheels and axles were delivered to the railway companies of Victoria and New South Wales.

In 1951, ThyssenKrupp supplied the first bucket-wheel excavator to a lignite mine in Victoria, and is today the original equipment manufacturer for all of the bucket wheel excavators operating in the Victorian mines of Yallourn, Morwell and Loy Yang.

Krupp is also a leading supplier of equipment and services for both the materials handling and mineral processing industries.

ThyssenKrupp's first permanent representative office was established in 1888.  In 1965, Krupp (Australia) Pty. Ltd. was incorporated in NSW, as a sales company for Australia.  Since this time, ThyssenKrupp Engineering (Australia) has developed its local capability and is today able to provide a complete range of services including design, project management, procurement, site erection, commissioning, training, operating and maintenance manuals, and after sales and services.
